THE PINK CROW

from €40.00

Gionatan Scali

Oil on canvas

145.5cm x 91cm

Crows as a traditional symbol are usually thought of as bringers of obscurity and misfortune, but in a change of perspective the artist revisits this reputation from another point of view, through a fundamental subversion of colour.

This enormous painting seeks to redefine negative stereotypes by bringing a new interpretation to traditionally negative prejudice. This could represent a process of humanification that we all desire be applied to us or one we should apply to our prejudices in hope of overcoming our biases to live a more authentic, clearer and ultimately happier life.

This abstract work, halfway between figurative and motivic was also later adopted and developed further as part of the Pink Crow crop top piece, as a societal commentary on the relationship between art and societal roles in textile form.
