nights out

€415.00

Lawrence

Acrylic on paper

70x100

An enormous face painted to an inhuman scale (and not completely without humorous intent), the artist portrays a friend on a night out in Milan. “Wacko colours”, because ”true colours aren’t important”, dominate this expressionist inspired piece. What could the context of the situation be, in which anticipation, excitement and amusement all characterise the spirit and mood of the subject?

The flame, epicentre of light, illuminates the entire face, while in the background the essence of a well-built up and relentless Milan is seen, which seeps and spills a gritty rough gray onto the subject herself, warning of the infectious rigidity and dehumanisation of societal structures and categories. The white of the paper can still be seen, as to communicate the true and visceral quality of authenticity, represented by the unfinished and irrational reality behind the painted layer.
