Strong, unrealistic colours as well as the intense gaze of the subject dominate this piece. The subject is the brother of the artist, who is drinking from a glass, distorting and hiding a part of his face. A convivial setting of family and safety, yet a fun and carefree one, allow him to be present yet absent at the same time and at will.
The thickly applied paint, the dreamy atmosphere, undefined background and the distorsion of the glass give an idea of an atmosphere heavy with emotion of memory and nostalgia.
